MRT has been granted prospecting permit for four (4) Concession Areas on 24 May 2024, which is grouped into two, the Bobonaro Project and the Liquiçá Project.
Within the Bobonaro Project Area, MRT has three Concession Areas, MRT- Maliana, MRT-Ai-Assa, and MRT-Lepo which are located adjacent to one another within the Bobonaro and Covalima Municipalities. The target prospecting minerals in the Bobonaro Project Areas are metallic minerals.
Concession Area MRT-Maliana is located in Municipality of Bobonaro, within the Post Administratives of Maliana and Bobonaro, covering a number of sucos, such as Sucos Holsa, Memo, Saburai, Ritabou, Oe-Leu, LahoMea, Tapo and Raifun. The Concession Area is within the approved Zone E for Mining Activities with the total area size of 50 square kilometres.
No known mining activity has been carried out in the area, however through recent limited geological survey data from the Government, the area shows a promising geology and geophysics anomaly for potential base metals and rare earth elements. It is believed that the area merit to be further explore, hence MRT commits to carry out prospecting work with the aim to examine the potential minerals and to map out the geology and potential mineral distribution. The surface geology of the MRT-Maliana Project area encompassing Bobonaro Formation, Maubisse Formation, and Aitutu Formation.
The prospecting in the area will not only benefit the company however through this project will contribute to greater understanding of mineral potential within the country particularly in Zone E which is lacking in data.
Concession Area MRT-Ai-Assa is located adjacent and to the east of the Concession Area MRT-Maliana. MRT-Ai-Assa is in the Municipality of Bobonaro within the Post Administratives of Maliana and Bobonaro covering a number of sucos, such as Sucos Bobonaro, Malilait, Atu-Aben, Ritabou, Oe-Leu, Ai-Assa, Tapo, Sibuji, and Raifun within the approved Zone E for Mining Activities. The Concession Area covers a total of 50 square kilometres.
The area is previously noted for minerals such as copper, bentonite, and clay, including rare earth elements based on the existing limited data. The surface geology of the area consists mainly of Bobonaro Formation, Aitutu Formation, Maubisse Formation, and Wailuli Formation.
The prospecting of the area is aimed to understand the geology and mineral potential within the Concession Area.
Concession Area MRT-Lepo is located to the east and adjacent to both Concession Area MRT-Maliana and MRT-Ai-Assa. This concession area is located within the Bobonaro and Covalima Municipalities in the Post Administratives Bobonaro and Zumalai and covering the area of Sucos Lourba, Carabau, Tebabui, Bobonaro, Solesu, Malu-Ubo, Cotabot, Malilait, Colimau, Lour, Zulo, Mape, and Ucecai. The total areal size of the MRT-Lepo is 50 square kilometres.
The surface geology of the area is primarily consisting of the Bobonaro Formation, Aitutu Formation, and Wailuli Formations. The prospecting activity within the Concession Area aims to understand the geology, verify the mineral potential, and map its distribution.
The prospecting of the area is aimed to understand the geology and mineral potential within the Concession Area.
For the Liquiçá Project, MRT held one Concession Area, MRT-Fahilebo. The main target for prospecting activity in the area is for non-metallic minerals.
Concession Area MRT-Fahilebo is located within the Liquiçá Municipality, Post Administrative Bazartete, covering area of Sucos Fahilebo, Ulmera, and part of the Leorema within the approved Zone D for Mining Activities. The total area of the Concession area is 27 square kilometres.
The prospecting activity within the MRT-Fahilebo aims to map the distribution of the non-metallic minerals, particularly the kaolin clay mineral and to understand the local geology of the area. The regional geology of the area is mainly covered by the Aileu Formation, Quaternary Alluvial and Quaternary Fan Deposit.
